Ingredients:
- 300g strong bread flour, plus extra for dusting
- 1 tsp instant dried yeast
- 1 tsp salt
- 200ml warm water
- 1 tbsp olive oil, plus extra for greasing
- Passata or pizza sauce
- Mozzarella cheese, grated
- Your favourite pizza toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, etc.)
Instructions:
- Activate the yeast (if necessary): If your yeast requires activation, combine it with a small amount of the warm water and a pinch of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy. If using instant yeast, you can skip this step.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast (if not activating separately), and salt.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients and pour in the warm water and olive oil.
- Mix the Dough: Using a wooden spoon or your hands, gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, or until it becomes smooth and elastic. It should spring back when poked.
- First Proof (Quick Rest): Lightly grease the mixing bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean tea towel or plastic wrap and let rest for 15-20 minutes in a warm place. It will rise slightly, but don't expect a huge increase in size.
- Divide and Shape: Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, roll out or stretch each half into a 12-inch circle.
- Add Toppings: Transfer the pizza bases to a baking sheet or pizza stone. Spread with pizza sauce, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and add your desired toppings.
- Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 220°C (425°F, Gas Mark 7) for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Cool Slightly and Serve: Let the pizza cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving. This is a great recipe for quick pizza dough.
