Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper, or to taste
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced into rings
  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) paprika
  • Vegetable oil, for frying (about 2-3 cups/475-710ml)
  • 1 (6-ounce/170g) can French-fried onions
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) balsamic glaze (optional)
  • Chopped fresh parsley, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Wash and trim the green beans.
  2. Slice onions into thin rings (if making homemade French-fried onions).
  3. Combine flour, salt, and paprika in a bowl (if making homemade French-fried onions).
  4. Dredge onion rings in the flour mixture, shaking off excess (if making homemade French-fried onions).
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C) (if making homemade French-fried onions).
  6. Fry onion rings in batches until golden brown and crispy (if making homemade French-fried onions). Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  7. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  8. Add garlic and cook until fragrant (about 30 seconds).
  9. Add Sauted Green Beans with French and sauté, stirring occasionally, until crisp-tender (about 5-7 minutes).
  10. Season with salt and pepper.
  11. Gently toss the sautéed green beans with the crispy French-fried onions.
  12. Drizzle with balsamic glaze (if using) and garnish with chopped parsley (if using). Serve immediately.
