Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter over medium heat until it begins to foam.
  2. Whisk in the flour and cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until a blonde roux forms.
  3. Stir in the chili powder, cumin, garlic powder, and onion powder. Cook for 60 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste until fully integrated.
  5. Slowly pour in the broth while whisking vigorously to prevent lumps, then bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Lower the heat and simmer for 5–10 minutes until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  7. Stir in the apple cider vinegar just before removing from heat.
