Ingredients:

  • 3 3/4 cups (480g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon (6g) sugar
  • 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
  • 1 packet (7g) instant yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups (355ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • Pizza sauce (enough to cover pizzas)
  • Grated mozzarella cheese
  • Your favourite pizza toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, olives, etc.)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
  2. Gradually add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 4-5 minutes.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, shape each half into a round pizza crust (about 12 inches in diameter).
  6. Place the shaped pizza crusts on pizza stones or baking sheets. Cover lightly and let rest for 15-20 minutes for a slightly thicker crust. (Skip this step for a thinner crust.)
  7. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
  8. Spread pizza sauce over the crusts, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and add your favourite toppings.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye, ovens can vary!
  10. Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing and serving.
