Ingredients:
- 3 3/4 cups (480g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon (6g) sugar
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 1 packet (7g) instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups (355ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing
- Pizza sauce (enough to cover pizzas)
- Grated mozzarella cheese
- Your favourite pizza toppings (pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, olives, etc.)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast.
- Gradually add warm water and olive oil to the dry ingredients, mixing until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. Alternatively, use a stand mixer with a dough hook for 4-5 minutes.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean towel and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough to release the air. Divide the dough in half. On a lightly floured surface, shape each half into a round pizza crust (about 12 inches in diameter).
- Place the shaped pizza crusts on pizza stones or baking sheets. Cover lightly and let rest for 15-20 minutes for a slightly thicker crust. (Skip this step for a thinner crust.)
- Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C).
- Spread pizza sauce over the crusts, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and add your favourite toppings.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye, ovens can vary!
- Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing and serving.
