Ingredients:
- 3 medium apples, such as Honeycrisp or Gala (about 450g), peeled, cored, and finely chopped
- 1 cup walnuts (100g), toasted and coarsely chopped
- 1/2 cup red dates, pitted and chopped (about 100g)
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
- 1/4 cup Manischewitz wine (or grape juice)
- 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional)
Instructions:
- Peel, core, and finely chop the apples.
- Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, or until fragrant.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples, toasted walnuts, dates, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves (if using).
- Pour in the Manischewitz wine (or grape juice), honey (or maple syrup), lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar (if using).
- Stir everything together until all the ingredients are evenly coated.
- For the best flavor, cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Serve chilled or at room temperature with matzah.
