Ingredients:

  • 3 medium apples, such as Honeycrisp or Gala (about 450g), peeled, cored, and finely chopped
  • 1 cup walnuts (100g), toasted and coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 cup red dates, pitted and chopped (about 100g)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of ground cloves (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Manischewitz wine (or grape juice)
  • 1 tablespoon honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Peel, core, and finely chop the apples.
  2. Toast the walnuts in a dry skillet over medium heat for 3-5 minutes, or until fragrant.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples, toasted walnuts, dates, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves (if using).
  4. Pour in the Manischewitz wine (or grape juice), honey (or maple syrup), lemon juice, and apple cider vinegar (if using).
  5. Stir everything together until all the ingredients are evenly coated.
  6. For the best flavor, cover the bowl and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Serve chilled or at room temperature with matzah.
