Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (2 sticks/227g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 cup (30g) fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional, for a little kick)
  • 1 loaf (1 pound/450g) Italian bread, baguette, or French bread
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (optional, for brushing the crust)

Instructions:

  1. Combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) in a small bowl. Mix well until everything is evenly distributed.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the bread lengthwise. Optionally, brush the cut sides with olive oil.
  3. Spread the garlic butter generously over both halves of the bread. Make sure to get right to the edges!
  4. Place the buttered bread halves on a baking sheet (lined with parchment paper for easier cleanup). Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the garlic butter is melted and bubbly. Keep a close eye - ovens vary!
  5. Remove from the oven, slice into individual pieces (if desired), and serve immediately.
