Ingredients:
- 5 ounces (140g) canned tuna in water or oil, drained
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) finely chopped celery
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) finely chopped red onion
- 1 teaspoon (5ml) lemon juice
- 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) black pepper
- Pinch of salt
- 2 slices of bread (sourdough, rye, or white)
- 1 tablespoon (15g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2-3 slices (50-75g) of cheese (cheddar, Swiss, or provolone)
Instructions:
- Combine the drained tuna, mayonnaise, celery, red onion, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a mixing bowl. Gently mix until well combined.
- Spread the tuna salad evenly on one slice of bread. Top with the cheese slices. Place the other slice of bread on top.
- Spread softened butter evenly on the outside of the top slice of bread. Repeat with the bottom slice of bread.
- Place the sandwich in a preheated skillet or on a griddle pan over medium heat, buttered-side down.
- Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and gooey. Use a spatula to gently press down on the sandwich while cooking to ensure even browning and melting.
- Remove from skillet and serve hot.
