Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch (cornflour)
- Pinch of salt
- Pinch of black pepper
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 clove garlic, minced (about 1 teaspoon)
- 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 2 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 teaspoons)
- 1/4 cup (60ml) honey
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low sodium)
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of a kick!)
- 1 tablespoon water
- Sesame seeds (optional)
- Chopped green onions (scallions) (optional)
Instructions:
- Combine marinade ingredients in a bowl. Add beef cubes, toss to coat, and marinate for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) in the refrigerator.
- Whisk together glaze ingredients in a medium bowl and set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Remove beef from marinade (reserving the marinade) and pat dry. Toss the beef in cornstarch to coat lightly.
- Add beef to the hot skillet in a single layer (work in batches if needed). Sear until browned on all sides (about 5-7 minutes total). Don't overcrowd the pan!
- Reduce heat to medium. Pour reserved marinade and then the glaze into the skillet.
- Cook, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the beef (about 3-5 minutes). Ensure beef is cooked through.
- Remove from heat. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions (if using). Serve immediately.
