Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) Ground Beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon (1.25ml) Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 small Yellow Onion, finely diced (about 1/2 cup or 60g)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil
  • 4 Burger Buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced Tomato
  • Sliced Onion
  • Pickles
  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Mayonnaise
  • Sliced Cheese (Cheddar, American, or Swiss)

Instructions:

  1. Gently combine ground beef, salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and diced onion in a bowl. Avoid overmixing.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. Gently form each portion into a patty, about 3/4 inch thick. Press a small indentation into the center of each patty to prevent bulging during cooking. Let rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat olive oil or vegetable oil in a large skillet or cast iron pan over medium-high heat. The pan should be hot but not smoking.
  4. Place the patties in the hot pan, leaving space between them. Sear for 3-4 minutes per side, until a deep brown crust forms.
  5. Reduce heat to medium. Continue cooking for another 4-6 minutes per side, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C) for medium doneness. If adding cheese, do so in the last minute of cooking, covering the pan to melt it.
  6. Remove the burgers from the pan and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. Toast the burger buns if desired. Build your burgers with your favorite toppings and enjoy!
