Ingredients:
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 2 bell peppers (assorted colors), sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Fresh basil, for garnish (optional)
- Crusty bread or hoagie rolls (optional)
Instructions:
- Slice sausage into 1-inch pieces. Slice onion and bell peppers, and mince garlic.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add sausage pieces and cook until browned, around 5-7 minutes.
- Add sliced onions and bell peppers to the skillet. Cook until softened, about 7-10 minutes.
- Stir in minced garlic, oregano, and red pepper flakes; sauté for 2 minutes.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot with fresh basil and optional crusty bread or hoagie rolls.
