Ingredients:

  • 1 pound (450g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon (15g) brown sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) rice vinegar
  • 2 cups (400g) jasmine rice
  • 4 cups (960ml) water
  • 1 teaspoon (5g) salt
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • A sprinkle of sesame seeds
  • Optional: sliced cucumbers or pickled vegetables

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and rice vinegar. Add sliced beef to the marinade. Toss to coat and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Rinse jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear. In a rice cooker or pot, combine rinsed rice, water, and salt. Cook according to the rice cooker's instructions or bring to a boil, reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until water is absorbed.
  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add marinated beef, reserving the marinade. Sauté beef for about 5-7 minutes until cooked through and browned.
  4. Pour the reserved marinade over the cooked beef. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Fluff the rice with a fork and place a scoop into each bowl. Top with beef and drizzle any remaining sauce. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
