Ingredients:

  • 1.5 lbs (680g) Ground Beef (80/20 blend recommended for flavor)
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 tsp (5ml) Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) Onion Powder
  • 1/2 tsp (2.5ml) Smoked Paprika
  • Salt and Black Pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) Vegetable Oil or other high-heat cooking oil
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) Mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp (30ml) Ketchup
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Yellow Mustard
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) Sweet Pickle Relish
  • 1 tsp (5ml) White Vinegar
  • 1/4 tsp (1.25ml) Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1.25ml) Paprika
  • Pinch of Cayenne Pepper (optional)
  • 4 Burger Buns (Sesame seed buns are classic)
  • 4 slices Cheddar Cheese
  • 1 medium Tomato, sliced
  • 1/2 cup (50g) Shredded Lettuce
  • 1/2 medium White Onion, thinly sliced (optional)
  • Pickles (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Gently combine ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Form into 4 equally sized patties. Gently flatten the top with your thumb to prevent bulging during cooking. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, yellow mustard, sweet pickle relish, white vinegar, garlic powder, paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using). Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  3. Heat oil in a griddle or large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer depending on desired doneness. In the last minute of cooking, top each patty with a slice of cheddar cheese and cover the pan or griddle to melt the cheese. (Internal temp should reach 165F)
  4. Lightly toast the burger buns on the griddle or in a toaster for a more golden colour and texture (optional).
  5. Spread a generous amount of 'secret' sauce on both the top and bottom bun. On the bottom bun, layer lettuce, tomato slices, optional onion slices, and cooked cheeseburger patty. Top with the other half of the bun.
  6. Serve burgers hot with your favorite sides immediately.
