Ingredients:
- 2 lbs lean ground beef
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, and seasonings. Gently shape the mixture into 6 oval patties.
- Heat vegetable oil in a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the patties for 3–5 minutes per side until a deep mahogany crust forms. Remove patties and set aside on a plate.
- Reduce heat to medium. Add butter to the same skillet and, once foaming, sauté the sliced onions for 5–7 minutes until translucent.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir for 2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
- Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce until the gravy reaches a velvety consistency.
- Return the seared patties to the pan. Simmer on low for 10 minutes, spooning gravy over the meat until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.
