Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp (12g) baking powder
- 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
- 1 can (29 oz / 828g) sliced peaches in juice
- 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp (1g) ground nutmeg
Instructions:
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Melt the butter in a 9x9 inch square baking dish using the oven or microwave, then tilt the dish to ensure the bottom and sides are evenly coated.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until no lumps remain.
- Pour in the whole milk and whisk gently until just combined; do not overmix.
- Pour the batter directly onto the melted butter in the baking dish, leaving it as a distinct layer without stirring.
- Gently spoon the canned peaches and their juice over the batter.
- Sprinkle the ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg evenly across the top.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is mahogany-colored and the syrup is simmering around the edges.
