Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp (12g) baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp (1.5g) salt
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • 1 can (29 oz / 828g) sliced peaches in juice
  • 1 tsp (2g) ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp (1g) ground nutmeg

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Melt the butter in a 9x9 inch square baking dish using the oven or microwave, then tilt the dish to ensure the bottom and sides are evenly coated.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until no lumps remain.
  4. Pour in the whole milk and whisk gently until just combined; do not overmix.
  5. Pour the batter directly onto the melted butter in the baking dish, leaving it as a distinct layer without stirring.
  6. Gently spoon the canned peaches and their juice over the batter.
  7. Sprinkle the ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg evenly across the top.
  8. Bake for 40–45 minutes until the top is mahogany-colored and the syrup is simmering around the edges.
