Ingredients:
- 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice
- 2 cups (475ml) water
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) salt
- 1 tablespoon (15ml) unsalted butter or olive oil (optional)
Instructions:
- Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water for 1-2 minutes, until the water runs clear.
- Add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter (if using) to the saucepan.
- Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, uncovered.
- Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the pot with the lid, and simmer gently for 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time!
- After 18 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, still covered, for 10 minutes.
- After resting, gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve immediately.
