Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (200g) long-grain white rice
  • 2 cups (475ml) water
  • 1/2 teaspoon (2.5ml) salt
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) unsalted butter or olive oil (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Place the rice in a fine-mesh sieve and rinse under cold running water for 1-2 minutes, until the water runs clear.
  2. Add the rinsed rice, water, salt, and butter (if using) to the saucepan.
  3. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil over medium-high heat, uncovered.
  4. Once boiling, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting, cover the pot with the lid, and simmer gently for 18 minutes. Do not lift the lid during this time!
  5. After 18 minutes, remove the pot from the heat and let it sit, still covered, for 10 minutes.
  6. After resting, gently fluff the rice with a fork to separate the grains. Serve immediately.
