Ingredients:

  • 1 medium green cabbage (about 2 pounds/900 grams)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Water (for boiling/steaming)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) unsalted butter or olive oil
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 tablespoons (30 mL) vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon (5 g) fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 2 green onions, sliced

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Cabbage: Remove any wilted outer leaves from the cabbage, cut into quarters, remove the core, and slice.
  2. Boiling: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil, add cabbage pieces, and cook for 5-10 minutes until tender.
  3. Steaming: Place cabbage in a steamer basket over boiling water, cover, and steam for 7-12 minutes.
  4. Sautéing: Heat butter or oil in a skillet, add onion and sauté until translucent, then add cabbage and cook 5-7 minutes.
  5. Stir-Frying: Heat vegetable oil in a wok, add ginger and bell pepper, stir-fry for 2 minutes, then add cabbage and cook for 3-5 minutes.
  6. Taste and Season: Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.
