Ingredients:
- 1 cup (240ml) warm water (105-115°F / 40-46°C)
- 1 teaspoon (5g) granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons (7g) active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon (6g) salt
- 2 tablespoons (30ml) olive oil, plus more for greasing the bowl
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes, until foamy.
- In the same bowl, add flour and salt.
- Add olive oil to the yeast mixture. If using a stand mixer, attach the dough hook and mix on low speed. If mixing by hand, use a wooden spoon to combine the ingredients.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. The dough should be tacky but not sticky.
- Lightly grease a large bowl with olive oil. Place the dough in the bowl, turning to coat. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Gently punch down the dough to release the air. Now your dough is ready to be used in your desired recipe (pizza, pie, bread, etc.).
