Ingredients:
- 1 cup (226 grams) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 4 cups (480 grams) powdered sugar, sifted
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2-4 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- Pinch of salt (optional)
Instructions:
- Soften butter to room temperature (do not melt).
- Sift powdered sugar to eliminate lumps.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter using an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and light in color (about 2 minutes).
- Gradually add sifted powdered sugar, mixing on low speed to prevent clouds of sugar until incorporated.
- Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt (if using), then mix again until fully combined.
- Add heavy cream or milk one tablespoon at a time, mixing until desired consistency is reached.
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Taste the icing and adjust sweetness or flavor as desired.
- Use immediately to frost cakes, cupcakes, or store in an airtight container.
