Ingredients:

  • 4 (6-ounce/170g) salmon fillets, skin on or off, pin bones removed
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) olive oil
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) honey, preferably local
  • 2 tablespoons (30ml) soy sauce, low sodium
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (approx. 1 teaspoon/5g)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon (5ml) sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for a touch of heat)
  • 1 tablespoon water

Instructions:

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, rice vinegar, sesame oil, red pepper flakes (if using), and water.
  2. Bring the glaze to a simmer over medium heat. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and set aside.
  3. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) or prepare your grill for medium-high heat. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper (if baking). Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels and season with salt and pepper.
  4. Place the salmon fillets on the prepared baking sheet. Brush generously with half of the honey-garlic glaze. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). Baste with the remaining glaze during the last few minutes of cooking.
  5. Place the salmon fillets skin-side down (if using skin-on fillets) on the preheated grill. Brush with half of the honey-garlic glaze. Cook for 4-6 minutes per side, or until the salmon is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork, and the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C). Baste with the remaining glaze during the last few minutes of cooking.
  6. Garnish with sesame seeds and sliced green onions (optional). Serve immediately. The best honey glazed salmon recipe!
