Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (113g) unsalted butter, cut into cubes
  • 4 ounces (113g) unsweetened chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (60g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (85g) chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8x8 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang.
  2. In a double boiler (or heatproof bowl over simmering water), melt butter and unsweetened chocolate, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.
  3. Stir in granulated sugar until well combined. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Don't overmix.
  5. Stir in chocolate chips (if using).
  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  7. Let cool completely in the pan before lifting out using the parchment paper. Cut into 16 squares.
