Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons (28g) sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (60ml) warm water
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup (120g) red bean paste (or other sweet filling)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • 1 cup (120g) sesame seeds
  • Vegetable oil for deep frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and salt.
  2. Gradually add warm water and oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Knead until smooth, then wrap in plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, combine red bean paste with vanilla extract if using.
  5. Roll into small balls, about 1 teaspoon each. Set aside.
  6. Divide the dough into equal portions.
  7. Roll out each portion into a small circle.
  8. Place a filling ball in the center of the circle, fold over, and seal.
  9. Roll each sealed dough ball in sesame seeds until well-coated.
  10. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  11. Carefully add cakes to the hot oil, frying until golden brown (about 3-4 minutes per side).
  12. Remove and drain on paper towels.
