Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (480 g)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar (100 g)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons active dry yeast (7 g)
- 1 cup warm milk (240 ml, around 110°F/43°C)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (115 g)
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup mixed dried fruits (150 g)
- 1/2 cup mixed nuts, chopped (75 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon zest
- 1/4 teaspoon grated orange zest
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted (30 g)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions:
- Warm the milk and dissolve the yeast with a pinch of sugar. Let sit until frothy (about 5 minutes).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Create a well in the dry ingredients. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and eggs. Mix until combined.
- On a floured surface or using a stand mixer, knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Gently fold in dried fruits, nuts, and zests until evenly distributed.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (about 1 hour).
- Punch down the dough and turn onto a floured surface. Shape into a loaf and place on a lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let rise again until puffed (about 30 minutes).
- Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Brush with melted butter and dust with powdered sugar. Allow to cool before slicing.
