Ingredients:

  • 2 large Oranges, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium Granny Smith Apple, cored and chopped
  • 2 ripe Peaches or Nectarines, pitted and sliced
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) Dry Red Wine (Tempranillo or Merlot)
  • 1/2 cup Brandy or Cognac
  • 1/2 cup Orange Juice (freshly squeezed preferred)
  • 1/4 cup Simple Syrup (or to taste)
  • 1 cup Chilled Club Soda or Sparkling Water (for topping)

Instructions:

  1. Thoroughly wash and slice all oranges, lemons, apples, and stone fruit. Place all prepared fruit into a large glass pitcher or non-reactive bowl.
  2. Pour the entire bottle of red wine, brandy, orange juice, and simple syrup directly over the fruit in the pitcher.
  3. Gently stir the mixture to combine the liquids and ensure the fruit is submerged. Cover the pitcher tightly and refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours, ideally 4–6 hours, for flavour development.
  4. Just before serving, taste the Sangria. If it is too tart, stir in a splash more simple syrup.
  5. Top the pitcher with the chilled club soda or sparkling water. Give one final, gentle stir. Serve immediately over plenty of ice, ensuring each glass gets a good helping of the fruit pieces.
