Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour, sifted
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon (2 g) salt
  • 1 teaspoon (5 ml) vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (120 ml) whole milk

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour the 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, incorporating well after each addition. Mix in vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
