Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 cups whole milk, warmed
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions:
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until it starts to foam.
- Add the flour to the melted butter and whisk continuously for 2-3 minutes until golden.
- Gradually pour in the warmed milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- Continue whisking over medium heat until the sauce thickens (about 8-10 minutes).
- Stir in the nutmeg, salt, and pepper. Adjust seasoning as needed.
- If using, stir in grated Parmesan cheese until melted and incorporated.
- Remove from heat and let cool briefly before layering in your lasagne.
