Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted
  • Pickles (optional)
  • Mustard (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat the skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and bell pepper, cooking until softened (about 5 minutes). Stir in garlic and cook until fragrant (about 1 minute).
  2. Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef. Use a wooden spoon to break it apart, cooking until fully browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, apple cider vinegar, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined, then reduce heat to low.
  4. Let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until thickened.
  5. Toast hamburger buns in the oven or on a skillet until golden.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto buns and top with pickles and mustard if desired. Serve immediately.
