Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey)
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • 1 can diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
  • 1 cup water
  • 3 cups tortilla chips, crushed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
  • Sliced jalapeños for garnish (optional)
  • Diced avocado for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in taco seasoning, diced tomatoes, and water. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. In a baking dish, layer half of the crushed tortilla chips, half of the meat mixture, and half of the cheese. Repeat layers.
  5. Evenly spread sour cream over the top layer.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Remove from oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with cilantro, jalapeños, and avocado as desired.
