Ingredients:
- 2 lbs (900g) Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 4 tbsp (56g) unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream, warmed
- 1 tsp (6g) garlic powder
- 1 tsp (6g) kosher salt
- 1/2 tsp (1g) cracked black pepper
- 1 lb (450g) lean ground beef (90/10)
- 1 medium (110g) yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves (9g) garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp (16g) all-purpose flour
- 2 cups (480ml) low-sodium beef broth
- 1 tbsp (15ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp (14g) olive oil
Instructions:
- Place cubed potatoes in a pot of cold, salted water. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 12–15 minutes until a fork slides in with zero resistance. Drain thoroughly and let them steam-dry for 2 minutes.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until mahogany-colored and crisp on the edges.
- Add the diced onion to the beef and sauté for 4 minutes until translucent, then stir in the minced garlic for 60 seconds until fragrant.
- Sprinkle the flour over the beef mixture and stir constantly for 2 minutes to cook out the raw flour taste.
- Slowly whisk in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer on medium-low for 5–8 minutes until the sauce coats the back of a spoon.
- Mash the drained potatoes while hot. Fold in the butter, warm cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Beat vigorously with the masher until velvety and smooth.
- Spoon a generous portion of mashed potatoes into bowls and top with the savory beef gravy.
