Ingredients:

  • 1 box (15.25 oz / 432 g) of your favorite vanilla cake mix
  • 3 large eggs (150 g)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) whole milk (or buttermilk for extra flavor)
  • 1/2 cup (115 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp (5 g) pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) granulated sugar (optional for added sweetness)
  • 1 cup (230 g) unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 4 cups (480 g) powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) heavy cream (or milk, for frosting)
  • 1 tsp (5 g) vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Pinch of salt (to taste, for frosting)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the cake mix and granulated sugar (if using). Whisk to combine.
  3. Add the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry mix.
  4. Using an electric mixer or whisk, beat on medium speed until well combined and smooth, about 2 minutes.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. In a mixing bowl, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, and a pinch of salt, beating until smooth and fluffy.
  9. Once the cake is completely cooled, spread the frosting evenly over the top with an offset spatula.
  10. Cut into squares, serve, and delight in the bakery-like flavors!
