  • ½ cup (113g) unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk
  • ½ cup (60g) toasted sesame seeds
  • ½ cup (60g) chopped nuts (e.g., almonds, walnuts, or pecans)
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for sprinkling (optional)
  • Extra melted butter, for brushing

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in buttermilk until just combined; avoid over-mixing.
  4. Cover the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
  5. Combine toasted sesame seeds, chopped nuts, honey (or maple syrup), and cinnamon in a bowl.
  6. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out the chilled dough to about ½ inch thickness.
  7. Cut out rounds or shapes from the dough using a cookie cutter.
  8. Spoon a small amount of the nutty filling onto each round.
  9. Fold or roll the dough to enclose the filling, pinching to seal.
  10. Place the biscuits on a prepared baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  11. Brush the tops with melted butter and sprinkle with additional sesame seeds.
  12. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  13. Let the biscuits cool for a few minutes before serving.
